Industry Academia Conclave

The shortage of appropriately skilled labour across many industries is emerging as a significant and complex challenge to India's growth and future. According to NASSCOM, only 25 percent of technical graduates and 10-15 percent of other graduates passing out each year are considered employable by the rapidly growing IT and ITES segments. Hence, what we have today is a growing skills gap caused by the slim availability of high-quality college education in India on the one hand and the galloping pace of the country's service-driven economy.

The Directorate of Collegiate Education (DCE), Govt. of Karnataka has initiated a unique training programme called 'HosaHejje' on PPP mode. This programme aimed at making especially the government college students self-reliant and also enhances their employability. In collaboration with various training partners of the 'SAHAYOG' training programme, DCE organized a one-day convergence of industry and academia at SJR College, Bangalore. 354 Govt. Degree College Principals, various JDs and 16 Training Partners who have been associated with the Directorate of Collegiate Education participated in this programme.

The programme was inaugurated by the honorable Chief Minister of Karnataka Sri SadanandaGowda,MrDilipChenoy, CEO and MD of NSDC was the chief guest. Principal Secretary to Govt, Higher Education Department, Commissioner of Collegiate Education, Director Department of Collegiate education, Special Officer also shared the dias. The purpose of this programme was to instill a strong vision by bridging the skill gap amongst all the stakeholders in the educational and corporate sectors.

The inauguration was followed by two panel discussions on career options available for graduates, the industry expectations; the first panel was on making a living and second was on making a life. The panelist included Mr M K Sridhar Executive Director and Member Secretary, MrSudeepshenava from The LeelaPalace,MrRavindrapai from Apollo phrama, MsKirthika m from NASSCOM, MrVivek from Head Scope International,DrAnuradha Rao from Lead Solutions was the moderator.
